Match Analysis 10/2/08
This week saw us up against team Gloryhole, our adopted grudgematch team. And seeing as we had our match analysis post-match I can't really be bothered to go into major details again!
To sum up though, we again conceeded a dodgy goal, and an apparant lack of movement has again cost us. Either way, after we had conceeded, we managed to cancel out most of what Gloryhole had to throw at us, but this by means suggests we played as Gulleyly as we have done before and can/WILL do again. Towards the end of the second half, Gloryhole began to timewaste, and when Scott suggested that the "ref" (who personally I would happily request be changed if we have him again as he is actual shite) do something about it, he looked at Scott as though he didnt understand the word timewasting. What a waste of time. This prompted the goalkeeper of Gloryhole to call Scott a "fucking idiot" and then another player to collar Scott for wearing his chain. Riled, Marcus then ploughed into and duely wiped out the Gloryhole defender which was fun let me tell you, but combined instances had really turned up the heat so expect a clash next time as well haha! Either way, it finished a rather uneventful 1-0 game.
We need to rediscover our sense of urgency, and to figure out the best way we can play. A couple of ideas could be:-
1)Generally set pieces: goal kicks corner kicks and throw ins. These are key points in a game which 95% of the time we seem to do nothing with. So...
Goal kicks: I think we need to offer ourselves to Preston (oooh Matron!) better. And 2 of us not just 1. A player either side of the D, hugging the wings will not tempt a marker onto the lone defender in front of the D which we do at the mo, forcing us into the long ball. We are not a big side and the long ball is not the best option. With 2 defenders either side of the pitch we will provide more options, and with a midfield showing for the defence to feet should eliminate this problem.
Throw ins/Corners: We seem to overcomplicate these almost every time, trying long throw ins, or drilling corners low across the D to no avail.
Throw ins, we have to keep it simple. Maybe have a man come and basically stand next to the thrower for an instant option. And not be afraid to pass it backwards if needs be 'cos as long as we have the ball, how can they score? Unless we had Frank Sinclair on our team, but we don't so were OK there.
With corners, when defending them we must always stand on the taker, preventing a low drive across the goal face. When taking them, Scott often does this but we rarely connect in the middle. This is the best option from an attacking point of view, so now everyone knows what happens, lets convert these into goals by running in right to the goal (preferably in front of the GK if possible) and bangin it home baby.
2) We have to shoot more. End of lol. Coupled with more pace going forward in regards to decision making.
Any other ideas, add away!!
Keep it Gulley yo, and lets finish the season on a high like a 10 foot blunt. Brap
And bear in mind 4th isn't all that bad a position and is still an improvement on last year!

Re: Match Analysis 10/2/08
Some good input there I like it. I think it was really good that we all stood around and had a chat. The important thing is that we can we where we are going wrong. As Chick was saying, we need to work out who is coming on for who etc. I like the goal kick idea, we just need to give our places the option and spread out. Cheers again for the analysis Marcus I'll put it up soon.
