Match analysis - 16/03/08 vs. Offk3y

Post by marcus on Sun Mar 16, 2008 8:17 pm

The fixture list for this weekend matched us up with Offk3y, a team we have never lost to and an important game to take 3 points from in the race to anchor ourselves into the K2 Championship. Let battle commence...

The game began as per usual, trying to find our rhythm and flow in the early stages. Off to a good start, our defensive improvements had remained intact from last week, with some good marking, strong tackling, and players tracking back to help. Also, the goal kick situation had improved with the Cat having some short options to use - worked well methinks, especially in the first half. We had several shots on goal, and in one real breakaway attack Offk3y were lucky to find the net - Gulley being undone once again on the counter attack (sigh) with Scott claiming an own goal...desperate to get on the scoresheet by any means I swear! Either way, the Cat was unfortunate to have his clean sheet soiled once more, with an otherwise sturdy defensive line in front of him. Other than that I don't really remember much of the first half I'm afraid...probably best 'cos the good shiznit was in the second half!

So to the second half I shall move...with a mere few moments gone, it was clear who was on top - Gulley riding the game like a red blooded male would Elisha Cuthbert: on top and in control. Yeeeeeh. Soon enough, the Offk3y mistakes came one after the other, they really don't like being pressured! Scott capitalised on a gift from their GK by smashing the shite out of it into the top corner, and when walking back to kick off it emerged that the rest of Gulley had not even realised the ball was in the net!!
It seemed as though this shook Offk3y much like in the first 2-2 draw we got in season 1, as they were incredibly unsettled from the equaliser, and now we were firing on all cylinders, well, OK, misfiring might be more accurate seeing as our shooting accuracy was about level with Emile Heskey (before today...). Anyway, we were creating seemingly at will, and soon enough the ball fell at my feet and I drilled it between the GK's legs from a distance. (OK, so it was a semi-scuffed shot he basically fell over the top of, but still, I'm making it sound gulleyererer, and they all count, so there).
From then on, we kept creating at will, and a splentabulous pass from the Brazilian Edwardinho took me by surprise, a supreme flick finding me through on goal, but unfortunately my end product was about as on target as the USAF. Another fine move later found Edwardinho outside the area, with a nice drilled shot somehow clipping the post and coming out the other side, poor Edwardinho once again foiled by the British woodwork. Anyway full time arrived, and we found ourselves with 3 more points in the bag.

We can be very happy on the whole with our defending tonight I think, the marking was good and we closed down well in midfield, really getting at them. Our attacking was pretty good also, with many shots being had. Unfortunately, about 95% seemed to be wayward, but we got enough on target to walk away with the 3 points. So well done team, brap brap........brap.

yep il agree with that wel done marcus. at the end of the day even tho r performance wasnt exactly memorable, we still deserved the win so there isnt much point in sayin we werent very good and decreasin morale. even the teams that win titles grind out the one goal margin victories now and again (e.g. chelski, for about 34 games 2 years ago) so its good that we can win those kind of matches. our shootin was pretty awful, tho i only hit the post coz offkey moved the goal 6 inches to the right (dam those british posts).

i think our defendin was good, we marked really well. the only problem was more than one person occassionally goin 4 the same ball, but otherwise we defended stoutly and communicated much better. i fink we also got a bit over excited in the odd attack and ploughed forward, leavin us exposed and havin 2 peg it back.

still well done, a good result and a much better refereeing performance than last week. well done on ur shot chick, wud of made my day if ud have landed a tom huddlestone screamer in the top corner

peace out

Yeh I was well hoping you'd get one Chick, you would hardcore deserve it anyway. I completely missed the first goal, I was trying to work out which teams ball had come on our picth! Anyway, another 3 points and a good position in the league. It's great to see we are getting the shots off though, a few more on target and we're laughing. One
