Match analysis - 17/2/08
I am in a jovial mood this evening gulley ones, so have decided to write the review while it is all fresh in my mind. Brap.
Well, this was the final game of a long hard season...taking on Red 34FC, billed by ourselves as a must-win game. So, at 7.20 let the battle commence...
Red 34 kicked off the first half, and before long the desire and grit of Gulley was shining through as we began to dominate in possesion, and unlike the previous couple games we were actually doing some good with it. Heads up, movement and running off the ball was creating space for others to run into, and a couple of good one-two sets allowed us to get some shots off on goal. And we got as many shots off as a rapid fire 12 gauge in a riot. Most of these were on target, and Marcus rattled (OK, tickled) the wordwork winning one of many corners, one of which even resulted in an attempted header on goal! There is a first time for everything...
When we lost the ball with some passes that had gone astray, we tracked back and got the tackles in, this accompanied with our new defensive awareness was making us a lot more difficult to break down. On the few occasions Red34 did manage to let it rip, the ever reliable Cat was present, just as a wise man once said like a bus parked in front of the goal. However, come half time the deadlock was yet to be broken and the second half would be make or break. Scott remained on the pitch into the second half sensing a goal was imminent.
Correct!! A mere 2 minutes into the second half, Scott took advantage of some poor goalkeeping and smashed it home, bringing those gulley little smiles back onto our faces. Again, a few moments later as some more good passing work found Marcus breaking forward, a call from Scott and a pass sqaured found its way into the back of the net. We found our flow yo. Brappedy brap brap. Attacking on more fronts now and playing with no more pressure, we were battling away and some quality ensued. Scott was unfortunate to miss an open goal (hahaha) before eventually some good work from Stone winning the ball out wide and keeping it in play was unlucky not be rewarded with some rattling of some net. On some occasions, this prowess going forward left us vulnerable at the back, bt as per usual the Cat shone through. But I'm not gonna focus on any negatives. So...repeating the move from earlier, a spartanic Stone unselfishly followed some good work on the wing up by squaring the ball to Marcus as the net once more was a rattlin'.
So, with our victory in the bag and a clean sheet on the horizon only one thing remained: correcting the barron season of one Edwardinho. With an entire season played and no goals for the "striker", time was of the essence to correct this befuddling truth. Yet the first attempt you couldn't have even made it up - a thunderous drive from the edge of the D cracking onto the corner of the woodwork! Nooooo! It brought a tear to your eye... Poor Pete. But if at first you don't succeed, keep pluggin' away (unless its a bunjee jump, or parachuting...) and some fine wing play from G was capped off with a square ball with Edwardinho in front of goal with the ball at his feet. Goal time baby. With a mere minute left on the clock, Pete tucks the ball home, to raptuous applause from his teammates and the relief on his face a picture for all to see.
4-0. A clean sheet. Some quality play - heads up, moving, crisp passing, tackling, tracking back. Our biggest ever victory. All in all, a stellar way to finish the season. Oh, and did I mention Pete finally scored?

haha thank you all, i cant tell you how much it felt like the world was lifted off my shoulders. i must have had a good 5 chances in that game. great analysis again marcus. i no they werent the best team in the world (reminded me a bit of chelsea) but we still played really well. our passin was crisp, we were comfortable on the ball and didnt try 2 over complicate things, There were no errors i can think of and preston was a rock. we jus looked generally fitter and hungrier than them. you could tell that their profession was not Spartan....
well done lads, i cant explain my hapiness
get ready for it to happen all over again next season
p.s marcus you looked stunning in ur spurs shirt
