Match analysis - 27/4/08 vs. FC Sysma
Back by popular (well...) demand (Pete asked), the match analysis reigns supreme.
Relegated, but not for long, the Gulleyest of all Spartanic warriors set out to impose authority on the K2 Division 1, game one against new boys FC Sysma. Let's lock and load.
As the game began, it was not long before it was evident that we were pretty well matched with this side. Their cagey start allowed Gulley to push forward as they found their feet, and the midfield battle ensued. Shots were fired from both sides, namely from distance due to some compact defensive play. A largely uneventful half seemed to have reached its peak some some sexerrific football played in the classic triangle formation between Marcus Scott and G culminated in an incredibly unlucky shot from Scott, crashing the near post and somehow departing across the other side of the pitch. Not long after, Marcus slipped the ball through the Sysma defenders leg and got kneed a dead leg before the ref called back advantage. (I mention this because on Monday I woke up and can't really bend my knee much without it hurting like a bitch on heat in the ligment area, and may have therefore been the reason my legs were not working very well last night!) But alas, the half draws to a close at a somewhat fair 0-0 scoreline.
In the second half, both teams went for it. Shots were coming thick and fast and from all angles at both ends of the pitch. Accuracy was diverse aswell, with shots out the stadium, and a couple more woodwork clatterisms. Yes that is a word, I just coined it. Our movement for each other was amongst the best we have done, always providing ourselves with an option as Pete said. Unfortunatley, Sysma found the net midway through the second half. However, as usual this is not off putting to spartans. We continued to press, and created chances seemingly at will. G was unfortunate not to score, whilst their GK was fortunate to have his head intact after a rocket propelled drive on goal was turned away for a corner. High, wide and close shaves, we had it all. But, persistence pays off. Soon enough, arguably our worst shot of the night (to hit the target at least...) somehow trickled through the GK's legs to give Scott goal number 1 for the season and bring Gulley back level. Pressing for the win, we kept on going, supporting each other and going for it. Marcus chased down the defender and gained possesion in the corner, and cut the ball back to a steam roller named Pete who was unfortunate to place his low drive inches wide of goal with moments to spare.
Finishing 1-1, we have played how we know we can. Our movement at times was perhaps influenced by the prescence of a Brazilian international, beautfiul to watch and so unlucky not to get the goals it deserved. Sysma are a good side, and I reckon in the return tie we can 'ave 'em. Red 34 next week, so lets make it count.
Forget the times we have played poorly. Think about what we have shown we can do. We have it in us. We can do it. We WANT those crappy plastic trophies. WOO. HA. SPARTANS!!!!!!!

Those crappy plastic trophies are the only reason I get up in the mornings. Also, clearly my screamer in to oblivion was the best shot in the game? Who else can get that sort of hieght on a shot so close? The passing was amazing though and we really created those chances...some shooting practise wouldn't hurt though. I rekon we give Preston a run around in the second half this week, as long as we are a few goals up.
A great performance and it's good to see that our fitness actually shined through in the second half as we dominated the opposition.
